WhAt Is LaG?

Lag. It’s probably the most annoying and frustrating thing there is. Many places suffer from lag, and they get bad ratings and lower visits because of it. If your place is lagging, you still have hope. There are many things to both reduce and hide lag. Before I reveal some of the secrets, Lets talk about what the kinds of lag are.

1. Brick/Script Lag

2. Server Lag

3. Connection Lag

The most common and most frustrating kind of lag is Brick/Script Lag.  This happens when there are too many bricks or scripts in a place for the server to load easily. This causes continuous lag. Server Lag happens when an individual server is laggy. There is no solution for this, and usually you can leave and get on another server. Connection Lag is because of a users Internet connection. This type lag is only felt by that user. The only solution is to get faster Internet connection!

TiPs AnD TrIcKs

There are many ways to beat lag. Remember, there only reduce Brick/Script Lag.

1. Get Rid of it, Remove some Bricks!

One of the easiest ways to reduce lag is to remove unnecessary bricks in your place. For example, change a 10-brick wall into a 1-brick wall. Removing unnecessary scripts help as well.

2. Spread it Out, Kick it out!  

Focusing alot of bricks in one area is a bad idea, it can cause alot of lag. Instead, spread it around to make the place a little less laggy.

3. Make it Quit, Add a script!

Just searching “lag” in ~all models~ will pull up over a thousand search results. A easy solution is to just pick one of these scripts and put it in your place. But Beware! Do not put multiple anti-lag scripts in your place. It won’t help, and will make the place lag more!

4. Remove the snaps, make it fast!

Another helpful script is the snap remover. It helps remove unnecessary snaps and reduce the lag. Again, don’t put multiples of these in your place. Note- If suddenly all of the bricks in your place turn into welds, REMOVE THE SNAP REMOVER SCRIPT. Some snap remover scripts do this.

5. Music and mesh, Not worth it!

Adding Music or Mesh you your place can severely add to your game file, increasing lag ten-fold. Until the admins add an update to fix this, build without them.

Basic Scripting - Part 1

Before we start, we first have to memorise some code. These pieces of code are used in almost every script.

What to remember:

function- what the script does

if- This tells a script to do something under a certain condition.

end- This ends a function or another piece of code

else- Tells a script to do someting if  the conditions under “if” are false

print- prints something in the output window

Now let’s start! First, open up Roblox studio. Click on insert>object>script and erase print(“hello world!”). Then make a door and a button. Group them together and insert the empty script in the button. Follow the instructions below.

The Script

We are going to make a basic touch door!

The first line is below:

 function onTouched(hit)

The above tells the script what the function is when it is touched.

script.Parent.Parent.Door.Transparency = 1

The above tells the script that is parent’s (the button) parent (the door) will turn invisible

script.Parent.Parent.Door.CanCollide = false

The above line will let some one go right through the door

end

This ends the function.

wait(3)

The script performs this for 3 seconds before moving on to the next lines.

script.Parent.Parent.Door.Transparency= 0
script.Parent.Parent.Door.CanCollide= true

The above makes the door become visible and solid again.

end

ends the function

script.Parent.Touched:connect(onTouched)

This is the last line to the script. This connects the script to the button.

And we are done! Try to type the script from memory before you copy in the following lines. This will help you in the future.

Tip #1 Remember that little green dot that you don’t, but can, use to move your character? Well, it’s going to help you now.  The dot only shows up when you postion it over a brick. this means you can sweep it around and find the path. Click, and you move right onto the path! Neat huh.

Tip #2 Be very careful. never click to far ahead of you or you may vear off the path. Do this, and you are in the clear!!!!!

Tip #1 When you jump those dreaded squares, switch to a birds-eye view. This will help you judge the distance you need to jump to clear the lava.

Tip #2 Find the way. Before you jump, survey the situation. Is there an easier path than the one you’ve been using? Jump the Path that is easiest to YOU.

Tip #3 Check for Tricks. Many users will put fake squares, Non-killing lava, battle armor, or even invisible paths on their lava jump. Be sure to check to make sure there arn’t different purposes other than jumping lava.

Tip #4 Don’t give up. Even if you think it’s impossible, still try. Who knows? You may get lucky.  

Tip #5 Practice. When ever you have a chance, practice it. If you practice frequently, you will eventually get better and better at it. That is how most users get so good at it.
